My name is Mackenzie Nichols and I am a third-year undergraduate at Northeastern University studying Journalism and Music Industry. I am a staff writer for Northeastern's music publication, Tastemakers Music Magazine, and Woof Magazine, Northeastern's lifestyle publication. I enjoy writing, reading, singing, watching movies, dancing and traveling.
I am originally from Alexandria, VA, about 20 minutes south of our nation's capitol. When applying for colleges back in 2010, I knew that I wanted an urban school with a strong sense of community. Northeastern was the perfect fit in terms of location, but the unique co-op program was what really iced the cake for me.
My first co-op position was for MSNBC's Booking Department in Manhattan. I spent six months working as a paid intern for the station's daytime news segments, meeting and greeting their guests throughout the day. The election of the pope, the Boston bombings, the Oklahoma tornadoes and the strike down of DOMA and Prop 8 were among some of the stories covered at MSNBC while I worked there. It was a truly irreplaceable experience to work for such a bustling, fast-paced environment as MSNBC.
I am thrilled to use this blog to record my time in Spain as I meet and learn from more incredible people.
